Polyester fiber sound-absorbing panels (PET) are made by pressing fibers together. The fibers used can be natural (primarily wool) or synthetic. A blend of both is also common. Polyester fiber sound-absorbing panels are durably stable in the presence of components, lubricants, oils, salts, and cleaning agents, and are inert to many other chemicals. They can bend to fit uneven surfaces and prevent foreign objects from intruding from the underlying load-bearing areas.

Polyester fiber sound-absorbing panels possess nearly permanent elasticity because they are composed of millions of individual fibers. The sound absorption performance of polyester fiber panels results from their excellent density and elasticity. The absorption of sound waves is achieved through the vibration of individual fibers within the felt. Energy is dissipated through frictional heat loss. Due to this absorption mechanism, overly dense felt does not allow sufficient vibration. These characteristics make it an ideal material for industrial sound insulation.
